Gaura Parba—the biggest festival of the Far-Western Region—will be celebrated on Aug 21.
A meeting of astrologers held at Bhim Dutta Municipality on the initiative of Nepal Astrologers’ Council, Kanchanpur, on Saturday made this decision. The gathering was called after news reports stated that Gaura Festival is falling on Sept 5.
The council has decided to celebrate Biruda Panchami on Aug 18, Amukta Bharani Saptami on Aug 20 and Gaura Festival on Aug 21. The gathering, quoting epics, concluded that the celebration of Gauripujan has no relevancy after the sunset at 8:32 pm on Sept 5. It also reached a conclusion to call on the government to declare public holiday on Aug 21.
Earlier, the council had submitted a report to Panchanga Committee regarding celebration of Gaura Festival on Aug 21. More than two dozen astrologers took part in the meeting chaired by council’s Vice-President Devi Dutta Panta.
