The 19th oratory contest was organised to mark Asar Poornima, an auspicious day that saw five major events occurred in the lifetime of Lord Buddha, including his first sermon.
Anjina Shakya of Yuwa Pustakaya and Neha Shakya of Sri Shakyasingh Vihar, both from Lalitpur district, were adjudged the winners in the contest held in the Capital on Saturday. Fifteen contestants from various Buddhist organisations based in Kathmandu Valley took part in the event organised by Jagatsundar Bwanekuthi Pariyatti Kendra, Lakhutirtha, Kathmandu.
In the competition, contestants made presentations on Buddhist philosophy, science, environment and meditation vis-à-vis Buddhism.
Buddhist scholar and historian Dr Bhadrarantna Bajrachary gave away medals and prizes to the winners. Suvarna Chhatrapur Mahavihar, Lubhoo, will organise the 20the oratory contest next year.
